Manjit Singh GK quits as DSGMC Chief
New Delhi , October 9, 2018: Top Delhi Akali leader Manjit Singh GK has resigned from the post of president, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).
GK’s resignation has come as a big blow to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal. GK owes his ascendency in the Sikh religio-political affairs in the national capital to the SAD president. GK had handed over the charge of the DSGMC chief to senior vice-president Harmeet Singh Kalka on October 5, 2018.
About the reasons behind GK’s resignation, he said that he had reservations on the SAD leadership’s policy and some decisions particularly on the issue of sacrilege.
GK was upset over the way SAD leadership dealt with Bargari sacrilege issue in a lippa-pochi manner, added the media advisor clarifying that he had not yet resigned from the party
GK’s resignation is a concrete and notable instance of serious differences of Akali leaders even outside Punjab with the central SAD leadership on the sensitive issue of sacrilege in Punjab.
He himself faced the ire of the Sikhs recently on the issue in the US where he was physically assaulted.
